Welcome to my mission blog Serving in Santiago!
My name is Sister Kyrstin Ellen Millett and I have been called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Santiago Chile!
In October 2012 the church lowered the age requirement for members of the church desiring to serve a full time mission. I thought long and hard about whether it was the right decision for me and felt strongly that this was the direction I needed to take. I'm excited to learn Spanish and serve the people of Chile!
Heres a little bit about me:
I come from a family of 8. Me, 2 sisters, 3 brothers, and 2 wonderful parents. My older sister Mallory and I are 15 months apart and we have always been best friends. We both received our mission calls at the same time and we will both be serving in South America! It will be weird going 18 months without seeing my family members because I don't think I have gone more than 2 or 3 weeks without seeing all of them! But I am so happy to have the opportunity to serve at the same time as my sister!
I have been LDS or "Mormon" my entire life and I absolutely love it! I love the Book of Mormon and I am so excited to teach the people in Santiago all about the Book of Mormon and the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Some things that I love:
I LOVE FOOD. I know, who doesn't right? Specifically, I love anything with peppermint, coconut, pistachio, white chocolate, pumpkin, raspberry, or cream cheese. I just love food. Very much.
I love Christmas. Like nobody's business. I love the twinkling lights, the falling snow, the giving, the anticipation, the pretty decorations, the cheesy Christmas romance movies, hot chocolate, pumpkin steamers at Kneader's, Christmas songs, getting out of school, Nativity scenes, turning to Christ, agh I just love it all. I can't even tell you how much I love it. Now I just want it to be Christmas dang it!
I love all things girly. Pink, mint green, sparkles, high heels, shopping, you name it. I'm a girl and I love it! (Except when Uncle Tom and Aunt Flo come to town... then the love is all gone haha)
Piano. I've been playing since kindergarten and while I haven't always loved it, it has become one of the greatest blessings in my life. Piano has taught me how to work hard to accomplish goals and it has given me opportunities to travel, make friends, and lifelong memories. My favorite thing about piano though is that it has given me a special way to express things that I can't say with words. I love just sitting down and playing something just to get my mind running and my emotions sorted out.
I also love art. It is yet another creative outlet for me. I especially love to paint. If I could I would probably spend all day every day just painting things. I am very detail oriented and I love giving attention to every detail to eventually create something that I think is beautiful.
I also love people. I love meeting new people, socializing, and making friends. I often struggle when life brings change because often times those changes include goodbyes. I hate goodbyes. I meet someone, I love them, and then I just want them to stay a close part of my life forever. I guess I will have to get used to it though because life is full of wonderful people and full of goodbyes.
And thats me in a nutshell!
