Fiesta Patrias!

First of all. Dearest Brothers: GO TO THE TEMPLE!!! For reals if you want to forever influence your life for good the best thing you could possibly do is go to the temple. Take advantage of it. You are in a time of your lives that is so dang critical and you can strengthen your testimony and relationship with God now in a way that will support you and your testimony for YEARS to come. For reals. Everytime people bash on my testimony or try to make me doubt I just think about what I have felt in the temple and then I dont have a doubt in my mind. but that doesnt come by going once of month or everytime they have a youth trip to go. It comes from a constant and consistent effort to go often, and not just go into the temple but let it get inside of you. (Some general authority talks about that but I cant remember who) But its amazing. You will never regret the sacrifices you make to go to the temple every week.

Well. Im sooooo out of time because I was answering to a few other emails that Id received but I did want to tell you about an awesome miracle I saw this week.

My comp and I had just began a special fast for a few people in our sector and to find the people that God had prepared in our sector. We get up from the prayer and our investigator (pato) cancelled the lesson. So immediately we just told each other not to let ourselves get down because we were gonna see what the Lord had planned.

Right then we got a text from the offices with a referral. So we went over and we found Omar. He had been looking for missionaries since he had met missionaries quickly in the bus over a year ago. Then he found the elders contacting in the Feria (the flea market or farmers market type of thing) and they sent the reference. He said he had been waiting for us every single day for the last week and a half just hoping we wouldnt forget him. He is AWESOME!!! We have an appointment with him this tuesday so Ill let you all know how that goes.

for reals the Lord always have a plan in mind and when we fast and pray God really does bless us with MIRACLES!

Love you all!!

Awesome Week

Well. Its been a loooooong week full of loooooots of meetings but it really FLEW by. I am just loving loveing loving things out here. Its really fun to serve where I do and with such a freaking awesome companion. We are really loving it.

Katie, HAPPY BDAY THIS WEEK!!!!!!!!!

Well. this week has been really busy. Tuesday we had an AWESOME district class about revelation, I HIGHLY recommend Elder Scotts talk from April 2012 (I think) about receiving revelation. I learned a lot from it.

Wednesday we had a leadership meeting with Elder Resek, it was really good, he talked a lot about the importance of the Sacrament. I think thats something that we can all do better at taking seriously and applying in our lives. We also started a special fast with my comp and I to help a couple people in our sector.

Thursday. We ended the fast and had a lesson with "Pato" (patricio) he was one of the people we fasted for. He is about my age, he smokes a lot, drinks, never really had any religious beliefs etc but we gave him a book of mormon and he read Alma 36 and said that he felt something and really felt the desire to change and to turn around his life. He is SOOOO AWESOME. So we went to our lesson with him right after ending our fast and it was AMAZING. Ive really been trying to work on asking more inspired questions, listening better (to the investigator and the spirit), making more invitations, etc but I honestly am not that good at it. But this lesson I literally felt like my tongue was loose and the spirit just took control. I didnt have to think once of what I was going to say, what I could ask to find his needs, etc. The words just came out and my comp and I just listened. The spirit was amazingly strong and we were able to help him decide that he really did want to pray to see if God exists and poner a prueba (does that just mean try?) all of the things we had been talking about. We are really excited because we have an FHE planned with him and a family in our ward tonight so pleaaaase pray for Pato!!

Later on thurs we had to come home early and do our studies because on the 11th of sept. all of the rebelious chileans go crazy and burn things, cut out all of the power, there are shootings, etc. We were fine though, I think they may have cut the power but it was after we were asleep anyway.

On friday we had an Awesome zone conference. There were lots of wonderful things said but one thing stood out to me specifically. Elder Resek got up and told us that he felt very strongly that we as a mission were doing everything the Lord wanted of us to receive success and help people come unto Christ and Endure to the End and that he knew that if we wouldnt fear and if we kept trying the best we could the Lord would help us to find and baptize more of the people that he has been preparing for a long time. This is like alll I want for this sector. Like I could care less if I have high numbers or whatever. But I just want to work my hardest here and see this sector flip around. I want to see these wonderful families that are so prepared accept changes and join the church but I also feel a bit under qualified. So will you guys please pray for my comp and I? I know the Lord has prepared SO MANY people here and we are seeing crazy miracles. But we are also seeing how hard Satan tries to fight back with so much potential and possible success just on the horizon of this sector.

Saturday I contacted in the rain all day to get people to come to the capilla abierta. With little success. But it was a lot of fun. Im glad I can do that now without getting freaked out and that we had such a fun time even though we were cold, wet, and rejected. It was great.

Well. This week on the 18th we will be celebrating independence day! Itll be fun but hard on the work because these Chilenos go CRAZY with their fiestas patrias. And people are already starting to get ridiculously drunk. We have had several experiences with creepy drunk guys already today and yesterday but I know that God protects us, we have seen several little miracles with that already.

And.... I gotta go. But I love you all and I hope you have a GREAT WEEk!

With love,

Busy Busy!

Well. It was a great week and I cant believe that another pday has come!

Mom, well this area is pretty different, but like everything is within 45 min of each other so it cant be thaaaaaat different. But its very different. Like pocuro was all big buildings, hospitals, universities, rushed people, single people, rich people, giant ward, giant sector. Sotero is like all houses, nothing commercial, middle class (chilean standard which is different than USA standard), families, community feel, drug deals and drunk people haha. Ive loved both sectors but this one is quite a bit easier on my poor heart. We teach loooots of people and its really great. It has had far less baptisms than pocuro though, Its had a looooooooong period of member problems, chueco (disobedient) elders, then kinda lazy hermanas that just visited the same 3 or 4 families, etc. So this place is ready for some change. the good thing is that recently sotero B had a white wash (two new hnas came at the same time) and they just dropped the old stuff and worked super hard to find new people and change things and now that the two sectors are combined there is soooooo much work to do and so much potential. People often look at this sector as a bit of a dud sector, but I LOVE it here. I dont believe that for one second. Me and my comp have been feeling that we need to fast more, so we are gonna fast more, and keep working and I know we are gonna see a lot of success, it will be great to get things back up and going in this ward. I for reals LOVE this sector :) VERY different from pocuro, I loved that too but I looooove being here.

Well, this week we had the mission leadership meeting... no clue what the name is in english, in spanish its concilio de liderazgo. It was a great meeting! Then we had zone class and my comp and I talked about leaving behind fear and having faith to baptize.

I went on divisions with hna Nuñez (she lived with me in pocuro) it was fun going to her sector and working with her, there were also lots of AWWWESSSOMMEE things that happened here while I was gone. I am so excited to help all of the people here in this ward I know the work is just ready to explode, so please pray that it will keep progressing like it is and that my companion and I will have the energy and strength to keep up with the work! My companion has really bad back problems and its really hard for her when we have days where no one answers almost all day (which happened like 3 times) but she is probably the most obedient, fun, hard working, and positive missionary I know so she really does a great job of working hard, its just really rough for her on days when we are drained of energy (which happens fast with all of the meetings and traveling we do)

This week we have like a different meeting every day. Im really excited to learn lots!

Not to freak you out but also it would be great if you could pray for all of the missionaries safety here :) I guess today a bomb went off in the metro station (close to where we were and a few people got injured, they set off a few in the other metro line a few weeks ago too....) so yeah we will be traveling in the metro like every day this week so all prayers would be appreciated :)

well I gotta go but I love you all!

PS. could you send me thebrownsugar cake recipe? (and what is bisquick made of mas or menos?)

PPS yeah mal Sept. 18th is a BIIIIIG thing here. People already have all their flags out, doing asados, inviting us over (several weeks in advance) and yeah looots of things. But before the 18th comes 11 de septiembre. Thats where all the protests and power cutting and craziness starts.... yipee! Happy 1 year in the Mish!

This Rocks!

Well. This week... has honestly been one of the greatest weeks ever in the mission. What a great week. My comp and I found ourselves saying "this rocks" "that rocked" etc like every second haha and then when we realized we were saying that so much we started saying it more as a joke. But yeah its been a great week.

Also, I talked to pres again about extending just one month and president said no :( but its all good I thought and prayed and felt like 1 month if I could do it and if not that I should just go home in Feb. So thats the plan. Ill be leaving the mission on Feb 9th. And oh my heck dad if you could land me that internship i would DIE OF HAPPINESSS!!!! I would love to do that. So let me know what you find out.

wow all you boys are just growing up!! I showed one of our little 14 year old investigators a pic of you all and she thought you guys were pretty cute hahaha.... I took a good look at the pic and realized what the heck my little punky brothers are getting all grown up now!!!

So this week was just such a fun adventure and I am LOVING being with hna orton. Its been great because we have been able to work so effectively and get sooooooo much done. I dont think Ive gotten so many lessons in in a week and with the two sectors combined we have had so many people to go and visit. If you could please pray for Paulina, Kathy, and Eduardo Iturra and Roberto, Maria Inez, and Javiera Riffo I would be very greatful for it! They are two families that are investigating and progressing super well and they just need lots of prayers! Also if you could pray for Pato (I think his real name is patricio?) He was aparently scientologist and or atheist a few weeks ago but he is really listening and really interested in the gospel and he has already had some great experiences with the book of mormon in the past week so we are really hopeing to help him change his life!

So this week we had a STL meeting at presidents house. It was such a fun meeting because its always nice to visit presidents house and see all of the other hnas and it was great because me and Hna Orton dont really know what we are doing as STLs or what President expects of us but we were able to learn a little better about our purpose and then president talked about our role as future leaders in the church and as women in the church which was really nice because man the chileans can get pretty sexist and Im kinda a feminist type of person so it gets a little rough sometimes because of just so many things so it was really nice to be able to learn what God really thinks and expects of me :)

Right after we had the STL meeting we ran over to the temple for a recorrido with the family Riffo. It was sooooo great and they totally could feel the spirit and were able to recognize it. But one of the greatest parts was when we were waiting for the family riffo to get there and Cleber passed by, I imediately started crying and we shook hands and were able to catch up. It was wonderful to see how active he is in the church and what a tender mercy it was to see him there. Then I saw ingrid! One of the ward missionaries from pocuro, we hugged and cried for like the longest time and it was so good to see how much she is growing and progressing too. We got really close while I was there in pocuro so it was wonderful to see her too. Then in the waiting room of the temple I saw Luz Maria! I didn{t have time to talk much to her but it was nice to see she was doing well tambien. What a wonderful day that was.

On sunday we had lots of lessons about selfless service and sacrifice. Joseph Millett was mentioned in a sacrament meeting talk and then later by the bishop for a 5th sunday meeting. It was really cool to see how even in Chile people are affected by the amazing example of joseph Millett. It made me proud to bear his name and to be an ancestor of his. There are some pretty amazing Milletts that have come before me and I really am so proud of the example that each one of them have left for me.

Anyway. I gotta go write some other people.... but Im doing great. Im very very very happy, and Im doing my best to work my butt off every day.

With love
