Summer is Here! (Because Spring is Nonexistent)

well. This week has been HOT. Like ridiculously hot. For reals the sun here is stronger than Ive felt anywhere else. When it says its like 90 degrees it feels like a million because the sun is so hot that your skin hurts (Everyone keeps telling me that right above santiago there is a hole in the ozone layer.... not sure how true it is.... but Im beginning to believe it)

So it was a good week. Im getting tan FAST. Haha except only half of my neck is tan because the shoulder strap of my bag gave me a pretty big tan line.

We did divisions two times this week. I had a lot of fun going up to La Reina with hna Mittleman. I love being with newbies and seeing them start out their little mission adventure. I also got time to catch up with hna Huber from my MTC district. It feels like just yesterday we were sharing a room in the hospedaje on temple grounds  and now here we are 14 months later with two changes left till we go home! I cant believe it. So yeah we invited them to come with us on our hike today and they came. It was so fun. Im pretty sure Im gonna be reaaaaaaallly sore though I havent hiked for like sooooo long let alone for 6 hours! but it was fun stuff.

ALEX. I cannot believe you are gonna be 16. What the heck happened to the time?!?!?!?! And you already have a date planned?!? Wow. Crazy.

Haha I had no idea that they took a video of when me and Nik went and talked to the PG deca people. Thats cool I guess. Boys, if you have any questions feel free to ask me or Nik (Im sure he wouldnt mind) I hope you guys KICK BUTT in your competitions this year. Keep me updated :)

Mom: my comp goes home in 20 days (holy cow. I just might start hyperventilating) I dont want her to go home. :( We have too much fun.

Katie: Im glad Im not in Texas. Too many bugs. We dont have like any bugs almost (God knows and loves me for sending me here..... anyone that saw me try to weed the yard growing up would know what Im talking about)

So everything with Omar is going pretty well. We had an FHE with him and one of our favorite families in the ward. He is growing and progressing so well and he is just the sweetest thing. Haha he told us that his friend Luis (his gym buddy) also happens to be taking the lessons and will be getting baptised the week after him. We figured out he is Elder Paxman (our DL) and Elder Lindseys (the elder that you met all of his family and stuff when we were in the airport) investigator haha so that was cool because we had no clue that our golden investigators were gym buddies. So. I reeeeeeeaaaaaaalllllllyyyyyyy reeeaaalllllly need lots of prayers for omar this week. He is so sweet and so shy and unsure of himself and so I think he is getting a little nervous as his baptism gets closer (he knows he wants to get baptized but I think he is scared that when he does he will have to give talks and maybe do scary things haha so he has talked about putting off his baptism a week or two) we just want what is best for him so please pray for him to feel the Lords assurance and know when the Lord wants him to be baptized.

Also will you pray for Javier? He also had a fecha but he wasnt sure if he would be ready for it or not so he decided to take this week to read and ponder and pray to find if and when he should be baptized. So please pray for him to feel and recognize the spirit!

Well. Anything else?

Oh yeah. Mom. I have not the slightest clue about signing up for housing. But will you look into that? I assume Ill be living with mal... and we wanted to live with Katie Kates. So...... If they still wanted that and you had to figure something out in January keep that in mind.

Dad I know I need to send you resume type stuff. Sorry. Havent gotten around to that. But have you heard anything else about the internship thing? Is it something I could do while studying? Cuz Ive been praying about it and Im still not sure yet but I was thinking about maybe spring semester when I get back. But I still dont know. It would depend on if I could do it at the same time as the internship and if Id still get my fall semester scholarships if I did spring and applied for those scholarships...... so yeah just thoughts that ran through my brain.

Anyway. I have to go. But I love you all!! Have a GREAT WEEK.

With love,

Hermana Kyrstin Millett

Doin Great!

Well. That looks so fun up there in Ogden. I'm jealous. Haha dad I thought it was funny to see how big the mountains in your pic look compared to the mountains here. I forget how huge they are.

Thats so cool about Elder Oaks and Brother Skinner! I have learned to looooooove conference talks a lot here on the mission. I learn so much more about doctrine and the scriptures and little by little Im able to teach it and apply it more in my life as I come to understand it more. My mission president knows a LOT of things about the gospel and its funny because little by little as I go reading I realize where he got all of that knowledge. From years and years of constant study of the scriptures along with conference talks.

Well. First of all. The apartment fell through. We were pretty sad. But Im ok because Id rather live with some annoying things and have all of the other miracles we are seeing continue than have a difficulty with the work.

Omar is still on track to get baptized so we are really excited for that. This sunday we showed up to church and we thought no one was gonna be there because we called everyone in the morning and they didnt answer or canceled. But we got there and our investigator Javier showed up! He hadnt slept all night because he was working but he came anyway and we werent even expecting him! He also has a baptisimal date he is just waiting for an answer and studying the book of mormon a lot so plllllllleeeaasee pray for him!

Also will you pray for Caty. She is so sweet and came to church too but she is deciding if she wants to keep taking the lessons or not. So please pray for her a lot if you can!! Thanks!

Sorry I have to go, But I love you all! Im doing great. Loving life. Its getting pretty hot but when the sun is blocked by clouds its freezing. Its crazy because the sun is so strong that it burns you but if you walk by a parked car and your feet pass through the shade they feel freezing cold. Wierdness.

A cool sunset in my sector

Just chilling after nightly planning

This note is from Cleber in my cuaderno de recuerdos (all of the members write in it when you leave) but dad I need you to translate it because its in portuguese and I dont speak that language..... haha I understand like half of it but not the other half.

Temple tour with Isi (our recent converts daughter) and her favorite family from the ward

We stopped by to see Cleber who was helping with english and portuguese classes with the missionaries (theyve already had like 10 baptisms outta these classes he has been doing to get new investigators. What a good guy.)

In the car after the recorrido

Lunch with hermana cabello. I like soooo didnt fit on the couch.

We made yummy banana cake to say thank you to nice members that help us :)

Just some pics of the costanera center we went shopping down there today. It was in my old ward I think its the tallest building in south america. Its taller than it looks.

We ran into Hna Bohman while shopping in providencia

Fasting Works!

Well this week  we saw several really great miracles.

First of all with our house. Have I told you guys anything about our moldy house with the partying drunk neighbors? I dont remember. But we have been feeling for a while now that we needed to find a new place to live and we got presidents approval but we hadnt been able to find anything decent with decent pricing. So the other day we were walking out of the little complex of apartment buildings where our bishop and like half the ward lives (the place we have wanted to live) and I got a really strong impression to go back and ask the conserje if there were any apartments open for rent (we had already asked like everyone and their dog 10 times and were told every time that no and that it was impossible to find an opening there because they go so fast) but when we asked he said that literally 5 minutes before hand the owner had left with all of his stuff because he was going to sell it to someone who was planning on fixing it up and renting it out. HECK YES. So after a few other milagros we got the number and info and got in contact with her and then a few days ago we were on our way to a lesson inside the complex when the conserje stopped us and told us that the owner was inside and we could go see her and the apartment. So we did and its SO PERFECT. Like for reals we are sooooooo excited and it is also a waaaaaaaay good price. So we are going to be doing the tramites (I forgot what that is.....) to get that all done this week. And it was juuuuust in time because yesterday we got home from Church and I went into the bedroom only to find that the door to our shed in our backyard was open (I didnt even know it could open) and there were footprints all through it. We are pretty sure someone broke in, and it would have to be one of the neighbors that hopped the big wall..... So that freaked us out because if you can get to the backyard you can pretty much get into the house. So yeah God is very aware of us and helped us to find an apartment to move into JUST IN TIME.

Also this week we decided to fast as a zone to find new investigators that would progress. And naturally if you are trying to find new investigators you have got to contact a lot. But just that day I was having lady problems and in A LOT of pain and ridiculously emotional and my comp was sick to the stomach with knee and back problems. We were a mess but we left to go work and of course no one was there. So we decided to keep trying other people and to contact everyone in sight. No one was listening and we were ready to just go back and finish up the language study that we had to put off to get to a lesson earlier in the day. But as were were about to cross the street I just felt something tell me to STOP. So I did. And I waited. Haha my comp took a bit to figure out that I wasnt following her. And a man came walking down the road and asked me (in english) if he could help me with something. I told him yes that I wanted to share something with him and we all got talking and it was suuuuuuch a good contact. We will be going to see him and his wife (He is MARRIED!!!! .... thats a miracle in and of itself) this thursday. His name is Juan and his wifes name is Faloon. Pleasssseee Pray that everything will go well with them! We ended up passing investigators we hadnt been able to find, and seeing all sorts of miracles for the rest of the night. Guys. Fasting. WORKS.

Anyway. I gotta go But I looooove you all and Ill see you all soon!

With love,
Hermana Millett.

Two Weeks of Letters!

So Troy's main home computer stopped working this week right before I was able to sends Kyrst letter out last week.  She sent so many pictures that I only included a few.  You can go to her blog if you want to see the others.

So this next week we have transfers. Im pretty sure Im just gonna kill hna orton (remember thats just a mission phrase haha, its her last transfer until she goes home so I think Ill be her last comp) BUT I am a little nervous about whats gonna happen because this week at our leadership council meeting president came and sat with us during lunch and asked us about the pros and cons of being together in a companionship as STLs and he said one of the big reasons why he doesnt feel sure about it is because he cant use us as trainers if we are together. Neither of us have trained and I know hna orton has wanted to. Honestly even though she has just one transfer left I think she could end up training because she is AMAZING. Seriously one of the best missionaries that Ive met on my mission. A newbie would learn more from her in one change than they could from anyone else. But yeah pres said that he wanted to use us as trainers so he wasnt sure what to do...... sooooooo we will see. Me and hna orton think itd be fun to train together in a trio. I hope thats what happens. And if not I dont want anything to happen because I LOVE IT HERE. I love this ward, our investigators, the recent converts, everything. I just love it to death. I hope I spend the rest of my mission here. BUT..... we will see.

We did get to see the womens conference, it ended at 11 (normally we have to be in the pension at 10:30 our mission schedule is an hour later than normal ones for cultural reasons haha because no one gets up around 6:30 and they eat lunch at 2:00 and everyone works and dont get home from work till 8:00) so pres gave us permission to watch it as long as a member took us home afterwards. We had to watch it in spanish which was alright but Ill be watching conference in English thank goodness. I understand fine in spanish but their voices arent as entertaining. And when the people from spain speak it just sounds like someone with a lisp talking which just makes me laugh. But I looooooooooved the music. Loved it loved it loved it. After singing "Soy un Hijo de Dios" for so long it becomes natural and you dont think about it too much but then when they were singing "Im a Child of God" it really struck me how powerful that statement was. Like it really felt like they were just powerfully stating or testifying to the world that they new their divine heritage and I loved being able to sing along in English to be able to say with all of my heart that I am a child of God. It was a cool moment for me.

Happy birthday becca doo!!!! Wow. 11 years. You are all gettin so dang big. Hhahahaha I totally remember my face being all puffy when you guys tried to get the halloween make up off, I didnt realize that it gave me two black eyes though. Poor becca, how is her face doing now?

We did divisions this week with an hermana that got to the mission at the same time as me and her little newbie. It was fun, I went with the little newbie and we got to talk a lot, it was fun remembering how I felt when I was in her shoes. I cant believe how fast the time has passed by.

Well. This week we had another lesson with Omar. He is the sweetest thing ever and has such great desires to learn. Its so great teaching him.  So pray for him please.

Today we are going to go teach Pato. We havent been able to get ahold of him in a while and then yesterday we finally did. But he sounded pretty bajoneado. (idk what that is in english... sad, down, bummed, idk) but he has been reading the book of mormon and is gonna meet with us today. PLEASE PRAY FOR HIM! He hasnt prayed yet, he still feels uncomfortable doing it. So PLEASEPLEASE pray for him so that he will feel the need, and desire to pray.

Oh yeah I gave a talk this week in sacrament meeting. Surprisingly that was my first time while here in the mish. Because in pocuro their were so many people and so many missionaries that there was no need, and here in sotero after a bad experience with a different hermana like a year back they havent let the missionaries do it again hahaha until like a week or two ago when the speaker didnt show up so they asked hna orton and then they asked me to prepare one for this week. It went well. I had to talk for like 30 min because they only have two speakers each week and the first one ended hers like 10 min earlier than she shouldve. Fun stuff.

Well. Thats all for today, I love you guys!!!

Hna Kyrstin Millett

Well. Im sorry that your week was rough mal. Ill be prayin for ya!

My week was kinda really awesome......... So General Conference. sooooooo awesome! I loved All of the talks but I really liked how Elder Anderson, Christofferson, Pres Uchtdorf and others talked about absolute and eternal truths. Thats probably one of the number one problems we struggle with as missionaries here in Santiago. Because everyone thinks they can choose their way to receive salvation or that if our doctrine isnt exactly what they had in mind it cant be true because God somehow has to work and exist only according to their personal opinion. For reals its reeeeeaaaaaaalllllly hard to get people to realize that no matter what we believe or what we want to think God is God and HE has eternal and absolute truths that dont change no matter what we want to think. God has given us a way to receive salvation and we cannot simply decide that we would rather do it another way and get the same result. Im gonna be whipping out these talks for allllll of the people we have been teaching.

As far as changes this week. I didnt get changed. Yipee! So Ill be killing hermana Orton, I assume we will still have a bunch of companionships to do divisions with and I will probably end my mission in this sector! YAY! (because I have three transfers left, 1 with hna orton, 1 teaching the sector to someone else, and probably just staying here for the next one) Poor Hna Orton will not get the chance to train , and I kinda dont know if I will either if things keep going the way they are. But thats ok Ill do whatever the lord wants me to!

Oh good Im glad you were able to print off those names mom! I have a few that are printed off with me here... theyve been waiting for a long time now but they were 5 or so names that I feel like I really came to feel closer to during all of the time I spent looking up family history work and I would like to do the work for each of them personally when I get the chance. their baptisms are already done but then just need initiatories and endowments.

So this week we had quite a few awesome miracles. First of all Omar has a fecha to get baptized!!!!! His date is set for 9 de noviembre so pllllleeeaaaasseee pray a lot so that he can get baptized on that date. He is litterally a Golden investigator. He came to saturday conference and really enjoyed it, he is progressing super well and already feels like he has a testimony of the book of mormon and everything. So please pray lots because I feel like Satan always has something up his sleeve and I dont want Him to get in the way of Omars progress.

So we are working with a family named the family Riffo and lately they havent been progressing too much which was super sad because they came to church for a month and had an awesome tour of the temple and everything. So hermana Orton and I decided to fast for them and a few other people we were thinking of to help them do better. Hermana Orton told me she was pretty sure we needed to talk more about Joseph Smith. So as we planned we felt like we should watch the Joseph smith movie with them. Its kinda long but we felt like it was the best thing we could do. So we watched it and at the end the spirit was so strong you could cut it with a knife. The mom (who had been doubting the most) said that it cleared up so many of the doubts that she had had about Joseph Smith and that she would read the Book of Mormon and pray about it even though after that she already believed that he was a true prophet. It was such a miracle, the whole family kinda just switched their perspective on things around, its SOOOO important to have a testimony of Joseph Smith, and just seeing a little bit of what he did in his life can help so much in gaining a testimony.

Well I gotta go write some other letters. Love you all! Have a great week!
